About The Author
Dr. Katrina Polk
I grew up in Philadelphia and was fortunate to be part of a family with five generations of admirable, beautiful, caring, dedicated, exciting, fabulous, God-Fearing, hustling women of color living in the same city. I love and dearly hold the experience of having a great-great-grandmother, two great-grandmothers, six great-aunts, and two grandmas for many decades.
About The Book
MIDLIFE AWAKENING
Midlife Awakening: The War Within is the deeply personal story of Denise, a 48-year-old Black woman facing the fractures of loss, love, and expectation. Burdened by grief and cultural silence around mental health, she steps into the unfamiliar space of therapy with a white Texan psychologist-an act that feels like betrayal yet becomes her most radical choice.
Through heartbreak, intergenerational trauma, and the suffocating weight of the "Strong Black Woman" archetype, Denise discovers that vulnerability is not weakness but resistance. This is a story of courage and reclamation-of finding freedom not by denying pain but by embracing it, breaking cycles of silence, and learning that healing is an act of revolution.

"We're not just building businesses. We're healing generational trauma while trying to make payroll. That deserves acknowledgment."
- Dr. Katt
